Tips On Packing Essential Carry-On Items

With numerous outfits and self-care items to decide on, packing for your post prom or grad trip is exciting but it could also be frustrating. Depending on where you are going and the duration of the trip, the key is to know what kind of bag to bring as well as what essentials to carry. Here are some helpful tips that can help smoothen the packing process!

Overnight

An overnight trip that involves a local road trip or hotel staycation generally requires a single bag such as a backpack or duffle. Essential items for an overnight trip should include toiletries, daily medications, and a change of clothes. For technology, make sure to bring your cellphone for potential emergencies and camera to capture post prom memories!

Weekend

If you are flying somewhere over the weekend, bear in mind that you are generally allowed to have one check in luggage and a carry-on bag. If you want to pack less, bring a carry-on bag with ample space and a shoulder bag or backpack. The essentials for a weekend trip should include toiletries, daily medications, headphones, phone, charger or portable charger, camera, your wallet, and also your travel wallet, which should include any important travel documents needed to fly. If you are partying at some point during the weekend, make sure to bring extra clothes and pampering items!

Week long (4-7 days) to more than a week

Suitcases are a must for longer trips along with your carry-on bag. Bring all the items that you are going to need especially if you are unsure about their accessibility at your destination. However, you also need to be aware of the weight of the suitcase you will be checking in so make sure you pack wisely! Here are the essentials you should take with you:

  • Daily prescriptions – Make sure you put these in your carry-on bag because you won’t be able to access your suitcase until you land.
  • Advil or Gravol – These are for people who get headaches and motion sickness. Gravol also has a side effect of drowsiness which can help you sleep during the flight.
  • Travel adapter – An adapter is mandatory if you are travelling overseas. It’s expensive to buy one at the airport so make sure you get it beforehand.
  • Toiletries – Toiletries are a given. Certain flights may provide some in-flight toiletries, such as toothbrush and toothpaste, especially if you’re going to embark on a 10+hour flight.
  • Beauty and grooming – Along with your planned outfits, bring your beauty and grooming products so you can look your best every day!
  • Charger and portable charger – Charge your phone while waiting at the gate before enduring a long flight. Also having your charger with you on a big adventure will be helpful especially when you least expect it. Some airlines don’t have a USB port or a wall plug, so having a portable charger will come in handy for long flights when your phone is at one percent.
  • Camera – Unless your phone already has a good camera, bring a DSLR camera to beautifully capture your post prom adventures. Don’t forget its charger and extra memory cards!
