5 Tips To Make Your Date Feel Comfortable At Prom
You have secured a prom date from a different grade or from a different school. The problem is your prom date is unfamiliar with your friends and only knows you. You are unsure if your date will fit in with your friends, but you want to make sure they have a good time during your prom.
When I was in my junior year of high school, I had a classmate who attended the prom of someone a year older than her and was so put off by the experience that she didn’t attend her own prom a year later. So, what do you do if you have invited an outsider to prom and make them feel comfortable? Below are five tips for making sure your prom date feels comfortable during your prom night.
Discuss your expectations about prom
Let your date know, from the get-go, your expectations for how you want your prom night to go, and listen to your date’s questions and concerns. Do you want you and your date to wear matching outfits? Do you want your date to pay some of the limo fare? Be clear with your date about what you expect of them so that they are not confused during the night of your prom. The more your prom date knows about your plans for prom night, the more comfortable they will feel about going to prom with you.
Talk to your date about your friends before prom
Another way to make sure your prom date feels comfortable during prom is by telling them about your friends before they meet your friends. You can show your date pictures of your friends before prom and tell your date stories about your friends. If your date feels familiar with your friends through your pictures and stories, they are more likely to feel comfortable around your friends when they meet your friends in person.
Tell your friends about your date
Your friends might not know how to act around your prom date, so letting them know about your date’s personality can help your friends be considerate. If you know that your date might be a bit shy you can inform your friends so they can understand when your date is quiet. On the other hand, if your prom date has a more outgoing or boisterous personality, letting your friends know ahead of time will prevent them from being surprised or reacting negatively to your prom date during prom night.
Invite your date to other events at your high school
Do you have a semi-formal before prom? Or a high school concert or football game? Invite your prom date to go with you! Your prom date will be able to spend more time with you and your friends in a natural school setting. Also, your friends will be able to talk to your date without the prom pressure of date photos, sitting in a limo together or spending time at a pre-prom party or post-prom party.
Host a party or attend a party with your prom date
Another way to make sure your date feels comfortable around you and your friends is by inviting them to a party. You can either host your own party or invite your date to a friend’s party. You can let your date meet and mingle with your friends without you having to be by their side the whole time. In turn, your date will be more comfortable around you and your friends during prom night.
