Top 5 Iconic Movie Prom Dresses
Did you ever gasp in awe while watching an actress in a stunning gown in one of your all-time favorite movies? Did it inspire you to wear something similar on one of the most memorable nights of your life? We all have that one dream gown we want to wear on this big day, and since pop culture has a more or less a big role to play in what we might eventually choose to wear for Prom Night, we put together five of the most iconic dresses worn in some memorable movies, as a source of inspiration for our prom outfits.
Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
As times change, fashion changes too, but Romy and Michele’s Gothic look for senior prom will never go out of style. These bold and dramatic early Madonna inspired looks would have never been anything any girl would dare to wear to one of the most memorable nights of her life. But if Romy and Michele can pull it off, so can you, right? From Lisa Kudrow’s bustier top-dress coupled with gloves and chunky accessories to Mira Sorvino’s high ponytail and choker with a spaghetti strapped look, these outfits will always be iconic.
Jodi Lyn O’Keefe in She’s All That
This list would be rather incomplete if Taylor Vaughn and her shimmering golden halter dress didn’t get a mention. Halters had been introduced in the 90s, and if anything, this dress only made halter-tops and dresses even more popular amongst young girls. They are, to this day, very much in vogue.
Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls
You would probably find the name Regina George next to the word ‘iconic’ in the dictionary. The original Mean Girl wore a satin, pink strapless dress in the movie, but what really stood out was the oh-so-creative flower crown she pulled off so effortlessly over her head. Regina George made flower wreaths a trend, something that even brides are spotted wearing to this day! Both the wreath and the sleek satin material of her dress are very much in modern style, with celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian wearing the simple yet gorgeous satin gowns.
Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink
This may not feature in every girl’s wish list, but what really stood out was the DIY style of this dress worn by Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink. Andie, played by. Ringwald, does not come from a well-to-do family, yet Andie manages to mix, match and stitch two dresses to come up with this pink, polka dot and lace, cold shoulder number. After this movie, the DIY style began to be featured in many more movies. Thus, making this look nothing less than iconic.
Olivia Newton-John in Grease
We all remember Grease for John Travolta’s fabulous dance moves. Although Travolta’s may have overshadowed everyone and everything else in this movie, you may remember Sandy’s cute cream number in the prom night dance scene. This look defines simplicity and elegance, with the dress having the right amount of flare, and white strapped kitten heels, making it easy-breezy for you to bust some moves.
