An Unforgettable Prom Horror Story

As a once in a lifetime occasion, prom is undeniably stressful as it involves intense prepping – from finding the perfect dress to the perfect date. For some, it can even become a complete nightmare due either improper planning or unforeseen circumstances. An acquaintance of mine was inclined to share her story.

The hunt for a date

It all started in the month of February. In Marin’s case, her closest friends had graduated the year before and she hadn’t been able to attend prom with them. With her own prom coming up, she wondered whether she should bother going or not. Because her close friends graduated and her older boyfriend is going on a family vacation on that particular day, it seemed like she would have to skip prom.

Enter Olga, one of her closest friends. She convinced Marin to go to prom since she had missed it last year. This would be a sort of do-over and since Marin wasn’t close to people in her grade, Olga had promised to go as her date.

Is it still a “yes”?

It was March and prom was just around the corner. Everyone around her was excited about finding the perfect dress. Marin also wanted to feel excited about finding a dress but she felt something was off with Olga. However, she brushed it off and presumed that Olga would be her date to prom. Marin went ahead with buying her $300 dress and had it sent out for tailoring.

In the end of May, it was time to finally buy the tickets. Olga who had suspiciously been avoiding the topic of prom sheepishly confessed that she had forgotten to tell her parents that she would be attending Prom with Marin. Olga’s parents already had their family cruise booked and purchased. Olga had flopped. Marin was in a panic as she had already bought her dress, tailored it and purchased a ticket. At this point, there was no way she could back out from prom.

The hustle before prom

Marin had spent the time she had left before prom asking if any of her other friends wanted to go with her. Olga didn’t seem sorry at all and didn’t even bother to help her convince their other friends to go with her. Luckily, one of her guy friends “Tom,” was willing to go. She had explained her situation to him and he had been a long-time friend to her. Things were starting to look up.

An unexpected incident

When the big day finally arrived, unfortunately, things still did not go as planned. Marin and Tom were mingling with everyone and were having a good time. Later on in the evening, Tom, despite knowing that she was in a relationship decided to make a move on her. This surprised her since she had reminded him several times before Prom that they would be just going as friends. Marin respectfully rejected him but Tom was a good sport about it.

The aftermath

Marin was still shocked and texted Olga about what happened with Tom. When Olga came back from vacation she decided to exaggerate the prom story to Marin’s boyfriend and this caused a post-prom headache for her.

Marin was glad she got to go even though it was very stressful at the time. And as for Olga? She’s no longer friends with her.
