Awards Season 2019 – Celebrity Red Carpet Style

With the conclusion of the 91st Academy Awards, this year’s awards season has come to an end but not without making some bold statements in the world of fashion and setting the tone for upcoming trends. This year, the variance in silhouettes gave way to bold androgynous fashion. The Grammys and Oscars red carpet looks this year ranged from classic designs to dramatic cuts and colours. We put together some of the best red carpet looks to give you some inspiration for your prom night!

Pantsuits

Surprisingly, the most prevalent look among women on the red-carpet this awards season was the pantsuit. Crazy Rich Asian’s actress Awkwafina was quite a show-stopper at the Oscars with her pink periwinkle pantsuit. Ellen Pompeo’s red Sally LaPointe pantsuit with a sequined top at the Vanity Fair after-party was another eye-catching pantsuit look. Other noteworthy celebrities that rocked this trend were supermodels Taylor Hill and Barbara Palvin, Kelly Lynch in a classic black Zara pantsuit and Natasha Lyonne in a Vitor Zerbinato number at the Grammys.

Sheer

For the past couple of years, the sheer look has been gaining popularity in the fashion world. Take a look at this stunning off-shoulder number Emma Roberts donned for the Oscar’s after-party this year. Other celebrities such as Rita Ora sported a sheer look with a gothic black Alexander McQueen outfit making some heads turn. Yet another black sheer number was from Shaileen Woodley, who wore a Pre-Fall 2019 Dior tulle dress.

All that glitters

Nothing says “red carpet” better than an eye-catching shimmering dress. Check out Michelle Yeoh’s off–shoulder Elie Saab number with a metallic bodice, which made a solid presence on the Oscars red carpet. Other notable stars in their shimmering numbers were Game of Throne’s Emilia Clarke in a gorgeous Balmain outfit, Glenn Close in a golden Carolina Herrera gown and Ciara in Versace.

Drama

No red-carpet season is free from drama–and by that we do not mean on-stage drama! At this year’s Grammys and Oscars, celebrities were bold and fabulous. It would be unfair to not mention Billy Porter and his iconic Christian Siriano look, which was an out-of-the-box combination of a velvet ball gown with a tuxedo shirt and bow tie. Kendall Jenner also attracted shock and awe in a double high-slit Rami Kadi dress at the Oscars after-party. Other noteworthy mentions are Chadwick Boseman, staying true to his character in the Black Panther in a black getup, Lupita Nyong’o’s white feathery Oscar De La Renta number, Bebe Rexha and Andra Day at the Grammys.

Pink

Pink was the most prominent colour among the ladies this awards season. Julia Roberts in a one-shoulder Elie Saab number, Gemma Chan in a baby pink Valentino Haute Couture outfit, Kiki Layne in a cotton candy pink Atelier Versace were some of the best looks at the Oscars. Other notable mentions are Helen Mirren in a beautiful custom Schiaparelli gown and Angela Bassett in a shocking pick Reem Acra number.

Velvet tux

While most gentlemen opted for a classic black tux, there were a few who decided to get a little experimental with their suits. Captain America star Chris Evans wearing a bespoke Salvatore Ferragamo ensemble was one such look, with a turquoise blue velvet jacket that really stood out. There was Michael B. Jordan in a midnight blue velvet jacket and Stephen James, who went all out with a custom Etro burgundy suit.
