Creative Ways To Save Up For Your Post Prom Travels

For a lot of us, the dream is to travel to all sorts of different places. It could be somewhere in Canada or perhaps a bit further like Switzerland or Vietnam. Whether you want to try out the local street food or take part in outdoor activities, all of it is going to require money.

If you haven’t started putting any extra cash aside, don’t fret! It’s still not too late to start. A savings account is a good foundation but here are a few other creative ways that you can try to build up your travel fund.

Borrow and swap instead of buying

Often times when we need something, we just buy it. However, if it’s something that you won’t really be needing or using for very long, why not consider borrowing it instead?

In the same way, the library is a great resource for books and there are plenty of options if you’re looking to get crafty. Places like The Toronto Tool Library & Sharing Depot have a range of different tools and items like sewing machines that can be borrowed. They even have board games too.

If it’s clothing related, instead of hitting up the thrift stores, why not take part in a clothes swap? Not only will you be able to refresh your wardrobe, you’ll be able to get rid of a few things that you probably haven’t worn in ages. If you can’t find any happening near you, just get your friends together and organize one of your own.

Start a saving pact with your friends

You know how potentially crippling experiences like going to a big party or getting your ears pierced is a lot easier when you have your friends by your side? Well, saving up for your trip could definitely be a more fun experience with them too.

Have an ultimate saving goal and meet up monthly for a quick financial check to see how everyone is doing in terms of saving up for the trip. It would also be a good way for everyone to share ideas and tips. If you want to make it more interesting, you could even set a punishment if a person fails to reach their monthly goal. Perhaps, doing everyone’s nails?

Begin a change jar

There’s a good chance that you have a bunch of small change  lying somewhere in your room or weighing down your wallet. Instead of spending them, save the coins for your travel fund

You can choose to put all of your change in a jar or another container. Small values like 10 cents or quarter are okay because every little amount that you put away will add up eventually.

Channel your inner chef

Instead of eating out or getting take out, why not get everyone to chip in for ingredients and make something together? It would be a fun way to bond plus if you’re not an expert cook, you can use the time to hone your culinary skills for when you eventually live on your own. Trust me, brushing up your knife skills now will be extremely useful in the long run. Turn this into a frequent activity and you’ll be saving even more money in no time!

So are you ready to start building up towards that dream trip? If you have any more ideas, we’d love to hear them too!
