Everything You Need To Know About Microblading

Eyebrow trends come and go but one trend that has not shown any sign of leaving is naturally full brows. It is impossible to open Instagram and not see at least one person with their brows “on fleek”. If you are tired of filling in your brows every morning, microblading could be the answer.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo on your eyebrows. It differs from regular tattoos because the pigment is implanted under your skin. The beautician will use a small pen shaped tool to make fine hair like strokes. The beautician will put numbing cream on your eyebrows and it will feel like very fast tweezing. It can last anywhere from a year to 18 months.

Is it for you?

Microblading works on all skin types but the colour will last longer on people with dry skin. The colour of the dye will appear darker on irritated skin.

People with eczema and rosacea should take extra precautions because these conditions will cause skin irritations. You cannot get microblading if you already have preexisting permanent make up.

Miroblading is expensive. It can cost anywhere from $350 to $800 dollars. This hefty price tag often includes the six to eight week touch-up appointment.

Choosing an Artist

When deciding on the artist, research them beforehand. Beauticians will have photos of their clients on social media. This will allow you to see how they work with different facial structures. Microblading looks really good after it’s done but it can look slightly different when it is fully healed. It’s a great idea to look for photos that are taken after the scabs have healed.

Communication is the most important factor when it comes to microblading.  You can use photos to show the artist how you want your brows done. Speak to the beautician beforehand so that there are no unpleasant surprises. The more informed the beautician is, the better they can help you.

The Process

Microblading is done in two appointments. During the first appointment, the beautician will stencil the outline of your brows with a waterproof brow pencil to give you an idea of the final result. This is the perfect time to let the artist know what you want to change the look.

Once the stencil is perfect, numbing cream will be applied to your brows. They will then take a pen shaped tool that has 11 tiny needles inside and make fine hair like strokes. This will give you the appearance of fuller brows. Then they will completely cover your eyebrows with custom vegetable blended dye.

The second appointment is a quick touch up after six to eight weeks. If you miss it, your brows will not last long. The price of the touch-up is often included in the initial cost.

Aftercare

First 3-4 Days –Eyebrows will look very dark. They will eventually fade to the right colour.

First 10 days – No water, makeup or cream on your eyebrows. Avoid sweaty workouts. Do not rub your eyebrows.

Two Weeks after – You will be fully healed.

If you are unhappy with your brows, it can be reversed. It will also eventually fade away.

While microblading is expensive, most people are very happy with their results. If microblading is not for you, there are more affordable options available. You can continue to fill in your brows or you can try eyebrow tinting.
