Prom Dress Trends Of 2019

Prom is a great opportunity to use your outfit to express yourself and your love for fashion.  Some classic trends remain popular every year, like simple neutral dresses with a little bling around the waist. But it can be difficult to pinpoint what trends will become the latest and greatest so many months before prom, so we put together a little cheat sheet to give you some ideas before the big day!

Two is better than one

Stand out at your prom with a two-piece ensemble. A crop top with a high waisted skirt will put an interesting spin on formal wear. This chic combination gives the appearance of a slim waist. Wearing a two-piece outfit would make it easier to dance,  plus you can always wear the dress  again together or as separate pieces.

Go sheer

The sheer gown likes to play tricks on the eye and is sure to grab some attention. Typically, they have sections made from a sheer material allowing the gown to give the impression of showing skin without actually doing so. The sheer portion of the dress is usually embellished with lace. If you want a more daring style like a plunging neckline or a backless dress, an illusion gown is a great option. It allows you to be adventurous while still remaining sophisticated, and covered all while  being a fashionable way to stick to the dress code.

Lack of back

Going backless is a daring choice that takes a lot of confidence to pull off.  It commands attention.  Backless gowns can be simple and elegant. They work well with a halter neckline.

Halter necklines

Meghan Markle wore a gorgeous halter neck Stella McCartney gown for her wedding reception and since then halter neck gowns have reappeared on the fashion scene. They have a balancing effect. It will draw attention upward and showcase your shoulders.

Show a little leg

Ever since Angelina Jolie showed up to the Oscars in her black Versace dress and struck a pose with her leg out, slits have made a comeback. This season it’s going to be hard to find a dress without a slit. From mermaid to empire gowns, they all show a little leg. A slit is a subtle way of commanding attention that works best with a floor length gown.

Cold shoulder

The off the shoulder gown is also known as Bardot. It will give you a chance to have a playful neckline that you can accessorize with a statement necklace. The feature that sets the Bardot gown apart from the other trends is that it will work with both long and short dresses.

Ball gowns, the classic choice

Prom and ball gowns are synonymous. They will always be the timeless choice especially since they flatter all body types. Choosing a gown with a high front and low back will give your ball gown a distinct look. Celebrities from Camilla Cabello to Ariana Grande have recently all looked glamorous in ball gowns. Channel your inner princess and rock a ball gown to your prom.

Metallic

A metallic gown will have all eyes on you. It is a creative and a bold choice that will ensure that you are the center of attention. The sparkling beaded accents of the metallic fabric will dazzle everyone in sight.

You can mix match any of these trends to find your perfect prom dress. Whether you want an elegant ball gown or a dazzling metallic gown, you’ll find the perfect dress for you.
